When registering with an exchange you keep seeing the word “rebate”: 20% rebate, rebate invite code, rebate rate… What is it exactly? Does it genuinely save you money, or is it just marketing? This guide explains how rebates work from first principles.

In one line: what a rebate is

A rebate = the exchange gives you back part of the trading fee it was going to keep.

Every trade you make on an exchange (buying, selling, opening a futures position) costs you a fee. Say spot trading costs 0.1% — buying 10,000 USDT of coins means a 10 USDT fee.

If you registered through a rebate link or invite code, the exchange periodically returns part of that fee (say 20%) to your account. That’s the rebate.

Where the rebate money comes from

Simple: the sheep pays for the wool, but in this case the sheep is you.

No rebate: you pay a 10 USDT fee and the exchange keeps all of it.
With a 20% rebate: you pay a 10 USDT fee, 2 USDT comes back to you, and the exchange nets 8 USDT.

Exchanges are willing to give up margin because of customer acquisition cost: compared with buying ads, paying a rebate to a referrer is the most direct way to win a new user. The referrer (such as this site) earns a commission, the user gets a fee discount, the exchange gets a new customer — everyone wins.

How to read a rebate rate

Common rates sit between 20% and 40%. Watch out for three traps:

A higher rate isn’t automatically better: some high-rebate links come with extra conditions, so read the rules first.
Rebates only apply to fees: no trading means no rebate — don’t churn trades just to chase one.
Confirm the code binds successfully: the invite code field must be filled at registration, because most platforms won’t let you add it later.

How long rebates take to arrive
